A seller on r/homelabsales is listing CloudGenix ION 3000 1U appliances — brand new — for just $45 each. That's an Atom C2758 (8-core), 8GB RAM, a 240GB SSD and a frankly absurd 14 GbE ports in a proper rack-mount chassis.

These are ex-Palo Alto SD-WAN boxes. Once their cloud licensing becomes irrelevant, the underlying hardware is a perfectly capable x86 appliance. Flash pfSense, OPNsense or VyOS onto it and you've got a router/firewall with more NICs than most people know what to do with — VLANs, dedicated management ports, inline IDS taps, the lot.

Why homelabbers should care
