Enterprise EDSFF drives — the E1.S and E3.S form factors you see in modern servers — are starting to turn up on the second-hand market at tempting prices. The problem? They don't fit anything in a typical homelab. The ADT R27A-BK3 adapter, reviewed in detail by ServeTheHome, solves that by converting either form factor into a standard PCIe x16 slot card.

The adapter is a simple passive riser — no drivers, no firmware to worry about. You screw in your E1.S or E3.S drive, slot it into a PCIe x4 (or wider) slot, and your system sees it as a normal NVMe device. ServeTheHome tested it with both form factors and found it worked without fuss.
